Hematopathology Fellowship
The goal of the Hematopathology Fellowship program is to provide advanced training in all areas of hematopathology, from classic morphologic evaluation to diagnostic molecular pathology. In recognition of the ever-changing demands of modern hematopathology, fellows will not only be exposed to state-of-the-art technology, but will develop the expertise necessary to evaluate and implement new methodologies, whether in an academic or community practice setting. The objectives of the program are as follows:
1. To demonstrate expertise in the morphologic evaluation of a variety of specimens, including peripheral smears, bone marrow aspirates and biopsies, lymph nodes and CSF and body fluids, as well as other hematology related surgical pathology and autopsy materials.
2. To utilize the appropriate use of ancillary studies such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry and cytogenetics, and to express the principles and practice of these methods.
3. To demonstrate expertise in hemostasis and thrombosis, by evaluating clinical problems and interpreting laboratory data.
4. To describe the principles of molecular pathology, and evaluate applications in bone marrow transplantation, phenotyping of leukemias and evaluation of genetic disorders such as hemophilias.
5. To identify principles of laboratory management as they apply to all areas of hematopathology.
