Dr. Vinters is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Neurology as well as Section Head of Neuropathology. Dr. Vinters' expertise is in stroke and cerebrovascular disease, degenerative neurologic disorders (Alzheimer and non-Alzheimer dementias, stroke-related dementia), the neurological aspects of AIDS, and structural brain lesions that cause epilepsy.

Dr. Vinters has written or co-edited four books on various aspects of diagnostic neuropathology, and currently edits the leading journal in this field, Brain Pathology. He recently received the Southern California Alzheimer Association Award for his research on dementias.
