Medical Renal Pathology

separater2

The renal pathology program at UCLA, under the direction of Dr. Charles R. Lassman MD,Ph.D. processes approximately 600 biopsies per year, half of which are derived from native kidneys and half of which are derived from renal allografts. Specimens are processed for light microscopy (hematoxylin and eosin, periodic acid-Schiff, Jones methenamine silver, Masson's trichrome and Masson's trichrome/elastic Verhoeff van Gieson), immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. Preliminary diagnoses based on light microscopy or light microscopy and immunofluorescence are available one working day after receipt of specimen. Same day stat processing is available if the specimen is received by 1PM, is clinically indicated and has been requested prior to receipt of the specimen. Reports may be faxed or made available on a secure, password protected web site. Reports can include images of light microscopy, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy if requested. Correlative educational conferences may be arranged.
