Dr. Reed has worked in the field of Immunogenetics since 1980. After receiving her Ph.D. from Columbia University, she trained in the areas of Immunogenetics and Histocompatibility testing, parentage testing and cellular immunology. She was appointed to the faculty of Columbia University in 1987. From 1988 to 1999, she served as Associate Director of the Immunogenetics Laboratory at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

Dr. Reed joined the UCLA faculty in 1999 and serves as Director of the UCLA Immunogenetics Center and UCLA Histocompatibility Laboratory. She serves on the Editorial Boards of Human Immunology and Transplant Immunology. Her research interests are focused on the study of mechanisms of allograft rejection.
