CD1

CD1 represents three distinct molecules designated CD1a, CD1b and CD1c which are predominantly expressed by cortical thymocytes and interdigitating cells. Langerhans' cells are CD1a positive. Mantle cells, cord blood, and some of the peripheral blood and spleen B cells are CD1c positive. Follicular denditic cells, monocytes/macrophages and all postthymic neoplasms are CD1 negative.

CD2

This protein is a pan T cell marker and is one of the earliest T cell-associated antigens; it appears after CD7 but before CD1. CD2 is a ligand for CD58 (LFA-3, receptor for sheep erythrocytes ) and CD59. It is expressed by immature and mature T cells and by natural killer (NK) cells. This molecule is an excellent T cell marker for the evaluation of lymphoid malignancies. CD2 expression has been also reported in some cases of AML.125
