ANNUAL COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Spring/Fall – no later than December 1 each year

Students are required to meet annually with their doctoral committee. The aim of these meetings is to provide the student with constructive comments that will facilitate their work and avoid subsequent time-consuming problems. It is expected that the first meeting will take place soon after the committee has been formed, no later than December 1 of the second year, well before the Oral Qualifying Exam is scheduled.

In the Spring/Fall of each year, the student should contact the Graduate Student Affairs Coordinator with an approximate time frame for the meeting. The Student Affairs Coordinator will contact the committee members, schedule an appropriate date/time and room for the meeting and subsequently notify all participants.

At least one week before each meeting, the student should complete a Progress Report for Annual Committee Meeting form and submit it to the doctoral committee and the CMP Graduate Student Affairs Coordinator. At each meeting the student will then present a formal oral progress report on his or her research. Progress on course work and any other matters pertaining to the graduate education of the student should also be examined. At the conclusion of the meeting, each committee member should fill out a Report of Annual Committee Meeting form. It is the student’s responsibility to distribute, collect and return these forms to the Graduate Student Affairs office within two days of the meeting. The Graduate Student Affairs Coordinator will dispense the required forms to the student prior to each meeting.

The department facilitates the meetings that occur throughout the writing of the dissertation; however, it is the student’s responsibility to provide the committee and the Graduate Student Affairs office with the required progress report forms prior to each meeting.
