The Doctoral Filing Fee may be used in lieu of registration if all formal requirements for the degree, except for taking the final oral examination (if required) and filing the dissertation, are met prior to the first day of instruction of the term. Doctoral students may the use Doctoral Filing Fee Application only if they were registered for the previous academic term.

The Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) began in 1958 to collect data continuously on the number
and characteristics of individuals receiving research doctoral degrees from all accredited U.S. institutions. The results of the survey are used to assess characteristics and trends in doctorate education and degrees.

The Doctoral Exit Survey began in 1994 and is used to improve doctoral education at UCLA. Please submit the survey to the Graduate Division when you file your dissertation.
Part A: Removal of Incomplete Grade / Part B: Grade Change /Submission
Part A of this form is used to report the completion of a course for which an “I” grade was previously assigned. Part B is used to correct a previously assigned grade or to submit a previously unreported grade. The instructor’s signature is required. If the grade change request is made after one year or, if the instructor has left the university, the department chair must countersign the form.

All recipients of fellowship awards and traineeships are required to sign up for Bruin Direct to have their stipends deposited directly into personal bank accounts. Monthly checks for those who have not signed up for Bruin Direct will be mailed to the recipient’s local address, even if it’s a foreign or out-of-state address, and will not necessarily be mailed before the first of the month. Bruin Direct Authorization Forms may be printed from the link below or obtained from the Graduate Student Support Office at 1228 Murphy Hall. Forms are also available in the Administrative Main Cashier’s Office and the Student Accounting Office. The Bruin Direct Authorization Form is submitted to the Main Cashier Office at 1125 Murphy Hall, with a voided check or savings deposit slip from any U.S. bank or credit union.

Petition to add or drop courses or change grading basis Enrollment in coursework after the third week of the quarter requires instructor’s signature and a memo from the Faculty Advisor and the Department Chairman with an explanation for filing after the deadline. A $50 late fee is assessed for late study lists filed after the third week. Fees for changes enrollment/grading status after the listed deadlines will be charged to student’s SBar account on a per transaction basis.

Continuing graduate students in good standing (3.0 GPA or above) who have completed at least one term of UCLA graduate work may, with the support of their department and the approval of the Graduate Division, be eligible for leaves of absence. Graduate students are allowed a maximum of six quarters of official leave of absence. Students on approved leave of absence are not permitted to use faculty time or make use of University facilities for more than12 hours since their last registration and are not eligible for apprentice personnel employment or other services normally available to registered students

Withdrawing from the University means discontinuing attendance in all courses in which a student is enrolled. Students who withdraw during a term need to file a Notice of Withdrawal.
