The UCLA Clinical Laboratories is
excited to announce it's latest venture in performance improvement utilizing
technology's latest
offering: Total Laboratory Automation
This endeavor is aimed to enhance patient care and safety, as well as improve the overall efficiency of laboratory testing processes and customer satisfaction.
Phase I: Pre-Analytical Lab Automation / Target: June 2004
Phase II: Total Lab Automation / Target: 2005 (New Hospital Implementation)
Overview:
The installation of the Power Processor
will automate sample
handling from the pre-centrifugation,
pre-sorting step to presentation of centrifuged and de-capped samples into
specimen racks ready for lab instruments or manual testing. The novel
system is designed to free laboratory personnel from biohazard exposure and
routine sample preparation, along with the promise of increased efficiency in
the laboratory's operations, including turn-around-times.
